The entire concept for the Dead Mono Series began with Toody giving me Fred’s Scully mono tape deck. That makes this release super special, and gratifying. One mic, a mono tape deck, and a live performance. The amount of heart Toody still has is humbling and inspiring. At 77 years of age she sings these songs with a freshly light fire! That’s why I cut 77 records. All copies have been signed by Toody! Comes with an extra sticker inside, and of course, a hand drawn spirograph.
Dead Mono is a nod to Fred Cole and Dead Moon. These sessions are recorded on Fred Cole’s mono Scully tape deck. A tape deck he never had a chance to get up and running. I hope he’d be happy knowing his old tape deck is alive, well, and recording music. Fred was also know for cutting his own records on his Presto lathe. One very similar to the one I use.
